Blockchain technology will have a far-reaching impact on all aspects of contemporary life and business. Currently, its application in various industries and wider adoption is constrained by three critical issues:
Blockchain improves the security and mobility of digital assets by consciously reducing computational efficiency through redundant cryptographic computation as well as complex smart contracts. As the computational intensity required to execute effectively far surpasses the capacity of distributed databases, the low performance and limited scalability of existing Blockchain systems have become important roadblocks limiting wider adoption.
Currently, the security of most Blockchain systems is guaranteed by the Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), which relies on CPU manufacturers. However, as recently evidenced by endless CPU vulnerabilities (Spectre, Meltdown, etc.), Blockchain system security cannot be guaranteed by TEE, given the inherent vulnerability of the underlying hardware.
With the rapid digitization of assets and dat, comes concerns around privacy protection, which is currently a vulnerability in the majority of Blockchain systems. Existing homomorphic encryption and zero-knowledge proof require enormous amounts of computation power to complete. Privacy protection, in effect, serves to create as further performance issues.
